According to Stedman's Medical dictioary thalamotomy on (primarily damage to the layer) produces deficits, if at all, some neurological or unpleasant personality changes.
From my experience in patients with (R), dysarthria and dysphagia thalamic stroke may, by a change in the caudate nucleus. There really is no measurable cognitive deficits.
